"Botanical Album of Soledar" Soledar, Donetsk region, Ukraine
2021

In essence, this body of work created back in 2021 preserved the landscape that is now forever changed because of the war. Since January 2023, the city of Soledar is occupied by russian army and almost destroyed as a result of hostilities. It is unknown what is happening in the city now.

In collaboration with Soledar residents, I organized an intimate gathering of local flora and soil. The resulting spectrum of textile samples embody the essence of the summer steppe and create three themes: “Yellow,“ “Green,“ and “Earth.“ Incorporated fragments of clothing whisper the narrative of human presence. By deconstructing the clothes and giving back the agency to the plants, I try to reimaging the landscape. Through this process, I seek to blur the boundaries between body, earth, and textile, crafting a visual language that echoes the reciprocal relationship between humans and their environment.
